Backsplash & Tile
The part people stand two feet away from.

The last ten percent of the kitchen, and the part people stand two feet away from every day.

Backsplash is the last thing installed and the first thing guests look at closely. It is also where sloppy layout shows up permanently — a course that runs out of square across the range wall, an outlet that lands mid-tile, a termination at the upper cabinet that leaves a sliver cut.

We plan the layout before the first tile goes up: where the full tiles land, where the cuts hide, how outlets get centered, and how the field terminates at the cabinets and the window.

How it goes

From the first visit to the punch list.

Seven steps, in order, every time. You always know which one you are in.

Step 01

The first visit

Vincent comes out, measures the room, and looks at what you already have. If your boxes are worth keeping he will tell you so, even though refacing is the smaller job. You get a straight read on what the space can do.

Step 02

Design and drawings

We draw the room in 3D — elevations you can actually read, not a rendering with fake pendant lights. You see cabinet heights, drawer configurations, and where every filler lands before anything is ordered.

Step 03

Materials in your light

Door samples, finish samples, and hardware come to your house. Showroom lighting lies. A white that looks warm in the showroom can read grey under your north-facing window, and you should find that out now.

Step 04

A real calendar

At contract you get dates, not a range — order date, expected delivery, install week, template day, countertop install. If a supplier slips, you hear it from us in writing the day we hear it.

Questions

Backsplash & Tile — the questions we get most.

Full-height behind the range, or a standard backsplash?
Full-height behind the range reads as intentional and is much easier to clean, especially with a slab material that has no grout lines. It costs more. A standard height with a full-height feature only at the range is the common middle ground.
Should the backsplash match the countertop?
It can, and slab backsplash in the same material is a clean modern look. It can also contrast deliberately. What tends to look accidental is a near-match that is slightly off — if you are not matching exactly, contrast on purpose.
What about zellige and handmade tile?
Beautiful and genuinely irregular, which is the point and also the risk. Variation in thickness and edge means slower installation and a grout line that has to be read as part of the design. We order extra and lay it out dry before setting.

Vincent does the first visit himself. He measures, he looks at what you already have, and he tells you straight what the room can do — including when the answer is less work than you expected. No charge for that visit.
